Chankuah – Light prevailing over darkness
Chanukah is the season when the Jews hade to fight against the evil leadership of the Assyrians-Greeks in the year 164 BCE, before the death of our Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua Hamashiach.
During this season the Jews defended and fought for the spiritual rights of their temple and nation (Israel),
When the Greeks had occupied God’s temple that belonged to the nation of Israel,
through the unwavering commitment of the Maccabee family from the tribe of Judah, war rose up between the nation of Israel and the Greeks,
which was victoriously warn by the Jews, after winning the battle over the Greeks- Assyrians, Israel decided to rededicate their temple, the word Chanukah means; to rededicate.
The rededication was a process of cleansing, and purifying the temple from the unclean idols and unclean things that the Greeks had brought in to the temple;
after they had done all the cleansing they then completed the event by lighting the menorah which was lit using a small bottle of oil that could only sustain the menorah light for one day,
but God did a miracle and the light of the menorah was able to shine for eight complete days.
This event took place around this month of December which falls on the 25th in the month of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar.
Even before the death of our Lord Jesus Christ, this festival that people call Christmas was held back then, but in that time it was not called Christmas,
it was held and kept under the festival that was later on given the name of saturnalia by the Romans (where people were given the right by the government to exercise all their evil desires through this festival).
And when ever this season came, which always took place in the month of December according to the Gregorian calendar, many evils happened against the nation of Israel,
so on this exact date of the 25 th of Kislev (which falls in the month December) the Greeks wanted to make the Jews Join in their evil festival by forcing them to eat pig, and do the things that pagans do in this season of Christmas, they even put a pig (swine) on the altar of the God’s Temple.
By this time the Jews realized that this was not personal, but it was an attempt conspired by the Greeks so that they may make Israel sin against their holy God.
That’s why they had to stand up against this evil system of the Greeks by refusing to worship their gods.
Today the Jews still celebrate this miracle that God gave unto them, when they warn the battle against their enemies.
In this season (month of December) when the whole world is celebrating Christmas, the Jews will be lighting the menorah with nine candle lights,
which is a symbolic sign that means; as the world is being consumed into the festival of darkness (Christmas),
God’s people will be giving birth to light instead, through the festival of lighting the menorah with the nine candle lights.
